Classes and Workshops

Workshops
The Los Angeles Chapter of Ikenobo Ikebana is considering sponsoring occasional workshops that offer interested people the opportunity to get hands on experience and learn more about Ikenobo Ikebana. These chapter events will be supported by Los Angeles Chapter Ikenobo Ikebana teachers.  Please stay tuned.

Classes

The tradition of studying Ikenobo ikebana involves the practice of making arrangements under the guidance of a teacher.   Through ongoing guided practice, students can progress in their mastery of the basic arrangement styles to more complex styles, both traditional and modern.  Ikenobo Ikebana classes are held throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties by certified Ikenobo instructors who are members of the Los Angeles Chapter of Ikenobo Ikebana.   Instructors manage the details of their classes, including curriculum, schedule and fees.  All students are expected to become members of the Los Angeles Chapter. See LA Chapter Ikenobo Membership  Typically, classes have a mix of different skill levels from beginning to advanced, and instruction is tailored to each student’s level.

Finding a Class:
For those interested in studying Ikenobo Ikebana, this list includes classes offered in Los Angeles and Orange Counties that are currently accepting new students.   For further information, please email the contact for the class you are interested in.

As of the end of March 2024, the Ikenobo workshops held at the JACCC on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month will be discontinued.  We thank everyone for the support over the years.

In its place, we will be establishing a class for students interested in the long term study of Ikenobo.  Following are the major differences from the former workshop:

  1. There is a monthly class fee and students  are expected to attend both classes, (absences are acceptable with advanced notice; students will not be charged any fees).  Students who are absent without notice will be charged the material fee for the class.
  2. Students are expected to join the LA Chapter of the Ikenobo School – cost is $50 per year.  Please see LA Chapter Ikenobo Membership for the benefits of membership.
  3. Students are expected to purchase their own equipment (vase, kenzan/pinfrog, scissors) for home practice.  Students may use our equipment during class.
  4. Students are expected to join the Pioneer Center as we are renting the classroom in the JACCC from the Pioneer Center and this is one of their conditions for usage.
  5. Students can earn certificates as they advance in their study of Ikenobo.  Note this is not mandatory, however, student certificate levels  dictate what the student is allowed to study and arrange for exhibitions.
  6. For more information, please send inquiries to ikenoboatjaccc@gmail.com
